The idea for a natural sweetener & syrups came from Bessie's love of cooking and her need for a sugar-free ingredient.
A blood condition, Haemochromotosis, meant that Bessie was likely to contract diabetes unless she found a pure tasting sugar-substitute. She found that by reducing her sugar intake and using stevia in her cooking in replace of sugar, she was able to manage her condition.
Although she liked stevia for its plant-based origins, Bessie found the liquorice like after-taste to be off putting. She also found most stevia products still contained ingredients such as bulking agents and sugar alcohols.
This prompted her to make her own products. Bessie has worked with Ulster University to create a range of pure stevia products that don't have a bitter aftertaste.

TASTE THE DIFFERENCE
That was back in 2013. Since then Bessie's idea has been turned into a brand Modern Nature.
This doesn’t make Bessie anti-sugar. As a baker she knows how important it is for sugar to be used in recipes to give the dish texture and structure. What she has discovered and developed is a sweeter, naturally tasty alternative to sugar that reduces her requirement for sugar and allows her to enjoy life without cutting it out completely.
